Revealed in Makkah as the shortest Surah in the Quran, Surah Al-Kawthar (The Abundance) was sent down to console the Prophet Muhammad (ﷺ) when the pagans mocked him for having no surviving male heirs, calling him cut-off. It promises him Al-Kawthar (a river of abundance in Paradise), commanding him to pray and sacrifice, declaring that his enemies are the ones who are cut-off.
Transliteration
Inna aAAtaynaka alkawthara
Translation
We have given you plenty
The shortest chapter in the Quran (three verses). Revealed when the Prophet's infant sons passed away in Mecca and pagan mockers like al-'As ibn Wa'il celebrated, labeling him 'Abtar' (a man cut off without sons whose legacy will die). God consoled His messenger by gifting him 'Al-Kawthar'—an immense celestial river in Paradise.
Transliteration
Fasalli lirabbika wainhar
Translation
So pray to your Lord and sacrifice
Commands the Prophet ﷺ to dedicate his ritual prayer and animal sacrifice ('Nahr'—slaughtering camels and livestock) purely to Allah alone, repudiating the pagan practice of slaughtering animals at idol shrines.
Transliteration
Inna shaniaka huwa alabtaru
Translation
He who hates you is the loser
A miraculous historical prophecy: God declares that it is his hateful mockers whose names and legacies will be completely cut off from history, while the name of Muhammad ﷺ is honored by billions worldwide across centuries.
