Revealed in the late Makkan period, Surah Az-Zumar (The Troops) serves as a powerful call to pure monotheism, urging humanity to worship God with sincere, unadulterated devotion. It contains the deeply comforting verse commanding the believers not to despair of God's mercy, for He forgives all sins of those who sincerely repent. The chapter takes its name from the vivid description of the Day of Judgment, where humanity will be led in distinct groups (Zumar)—the disbelievers driven to Hellfire in shame, and the righteous escorted to Paradise in honor and peace, welcomed by the keepers of heaven.

Is not to God that sincere faith is due? As for those who take guardians besides Him, “We only worship them that they may bring us nearer to God.” God will judge between them regarding their differences. God does not guide the lying blasphemer
Articulates the core theology of Arabian paganism: idolaters did not claim their carved statues created the cosmos; rather, they worshiped them as spiritual intermediaries to bring them closer to the Supreme God (Allah). Monotheism rejects all such intermediaries.
