Revealed in Madinah, Surah As-Saf (The Ranks) commands the believers to match their words with their deeds, warning against saying what they do not do. It praises those who struggle in the path of God in solid ranks like a well-structured building. The chapter references Moses' and Jesus' prophecies regarding the arrival of the Prophet Muhammad (ﷺ), reminding the believers that faith and striving represent a profitable transaction that rescues them from a painful torment.

Ya ayyuha allatheena amanoo lima taqooloona ma la tafAAaloona
Translation
O you who believe! Why do you say what you do not do
Revealed when certain companions expressed verbal enthusiasm, asking which deed was dearest to God so they could sacrifice everything for it. Yet when defensive mobilization was commanded at Uhud, some faltered. God gently rebuked making grand verbal claims that are not backed up by steadfast action.
Transliteration
Kabura maqtan AAinda Allahi an taqooloo ma la tafAAaloona
Translation
It is most hateful to God that you say what you do not do

And when Jesus son of Mary said, “O Children of Israel, I am God’s Messenger to you, confirming what preceded me of the Torah, and announcing good news of a messenger who will come after me, whose name is Ahmad.” But when he showed them the miracles, they said, “This is obvious sorcery.”
Jesus ('Isa) delivers glad tidings to the Children of Israel regarding the final prophet: 'Bringing good news of a messenger to come after me, whose name is Ahmad'—the celestial name of Prophet Muhammad ﷺ, matching biblical promises of the Counselor/Comforter.

They want to extinguish God’s Light with their mouths; but God will complete His Light, even though the disbelievers dislike it
Uses a brilliant metaphor regarding enemies of truth: compares their smear campaigns and slander to someone foolishly puffing their breath to blow out the blazing light of the sun—no human mouth can ever extinguish God's truth.

Translation
O you who believe! Be supporters of God, as Jesus son of Mary said to the disciples, “Who are my supporters towards God?” The disciples said, “We are God's supporters.” So a group of the Children of Israel believed, while another group disbelieved. We supported those who believed against their foe, so they became dominant
Commands believers to emulate the loyal disciples of Jesus ('Al-Hawariyyun'): when Jesus asked who would stand by him in supporting God's message, the disciples enthusiastically answered: 'We are the supporters of Allah!'
