Revealed in Madinah, Surah At-Tahrim (The Prohibition) addresses domestic events in the Prophet's household, establishing guidelines for oaths and family relationships. It commands the believers to protect themselves and their families from a fire whose fuel is men and stones. The chapter uses the wives of Noah and Lot as warnings for the unfaithful, and the wife of Pharaoh and Virgin Mary as role models of steadfast belief.

Ya ayyuha alnnabiyyu lima tuharrimu ma ahalla Allahu laka tabtaghee mardata azwajika waAllahu ghafoorun raheemun
Translation
O prophet! Why do you prohibit what God has permitted for you, seeking to please your wives? God is Forgiving and Merciful
Revealed concerning an intimate household incident: the Prophet ﷺ enjoyed drinking sweet honey at the home of his wife Zaynab bint Jahsh. Driven by natural co-wife jealousy, Aisha and Hafsah agreed to tease him by claiming his breath smelled like 'Maghafir' (a pungent tree resin). Sensitive to any unpleasant scent, the Prophet ﷺ swore an oath never to consume that honey again. God gently corrected him, forbidding swearing off lawful blessings to appease marital squabbles.

Qad farada Allahu lakum tahillata aymanikum waAllahu mawlakum wahuwa alAAaleemu alhakeemu
Translation
God has decreed for you the dissolution of your oaths. God is your Master. He is the All-Knowing, the Most Wise
Establishes the legal exit for unnecessary personal oaths: confirms that God has ordained the formal expiation of oaths ('Tahillat al-Ayman'—such as feeding ten poor people), freeing individuals from swearing to avoid lawful foods or permissible relationships.

Translation
The Prophet told something in confidence to one of his wives. But when she disclosed it, and God made it known to him; he communicated part of it, and he avoided another part. Then, when he informed her of it, she said, “Who informed you of this?” He said, “The All-Knowing, the All-Informed, informed me.”
Details a breach of household confidentiality: the Prophet ﷺ entrusted a private secret to his wife Hafsah, who subsequently shared it with Aisha. Divinely informed of the conversation, the Prophet ﷺ gently confronted Hafsah with portions of the leak while graciously overlooking other details to preserve her feelings.

Translation
If you repent to God, then your hearts have listened. But if you band together against him, then God is his Ally, as is Gabriel, and the righteous believers. In addition, the angels will assist him
Directly counsels Aisha and Hafsah to offer sincere repentance for their coordinated domestic drama, warning that if they continued pressuring the Prophet ﷺ, God, Gabriel, the righteous believers, and the angels would stand as his divine defenders.

The primary charter of family spiritual responsibility: commands household heads not only to safeguard themselves, but to actively protect their children and spouses from the Hellfire through moral education, character modeling, and loving spiritual discipline.

O you who believe! Repent to God with sincere repentance. Perhaps your Lord will remit your sins, and admit you into gardens beneath which rivers flow, on the Day when God will not disappoint the Prophet and those who believed with him. Their light streaming before them, and to their right, they will say, “Our Lord, complete our light for us, and forgive us; You are capable of all things.”

God illustrates an example of those who disbelieve: the wife of Noah and the wife of Lot. They were under two of Our righteous servants, but they betrayed them. They availed them nothing against God, and it was said, “Enter the Fire with those who are entering.”
Presents the sobering parables of the wives of Prophet Noah and Prophet Lot: despite being legally married to two of the greatest prophets of God, their personal disbelief and treachery meant their holy husbands could not shield them from divine retribution—proving that family lineage or marriage to a saint cannot replace personal faith.

And God illustrates an example of those who believe: the wife of Pharaoh, when she said, “My Lord, build for me, with you, a house in Paradise, and save me from Pharaoh and his works, and save me from the wrongdoing people.”
Presents Asiyah, the noble wife of Pharaoh, as a supreme global archetype of faith: living in the peak of imperial Egyptian luxury, she rejected Pharaoh's tyranny and torture, praying with her dying breath: 'My Lord, build for me near You a home in Paradise and deliver me from Pharaoh.'
