Revealed in Makkah, Surah Al-Jinn (The Jinn) details the miraculous event of a group of jinn listening to the recitation of the Quran, being deeply moved by its guidance, and immediately embracing belief. It refutes the pagan claims that the Prophet was taught by devils, explaining that both humans and jinn are subject to the same divine laws and accountability before their Lord.
Transliteration
Qul oohiya ilayya annahu istamaAAa nafarun mina aljinni faqaloo inna samiAAna quranan AAajaban
Translation
Say, “It was revealed to me that a band of jinn listened in, and said, ‘We have heard a wondrous Quran
Surah Al-Jinn provides an authentic scriptural account of the parallel realm of the Jinn: revealed when a delegation of righteous Jinn overheard the Prophet ﷺ reciting the Quran at Nakhlah upon his return from Ta'if, expressing astonished admiration at its literary majesty and guidance.
Transliteration
Yahdee ila alrrushdi faamanna bihi walan nushrika birabbina ahadan
Translation
It guides to rectitude, so we have believed in it; and we will never associate anyone with our Lord
Transliteration
Waannahu taAAala jaddu rabbina ma ittakhatha sahibatan wala waladan
Translation
And Exalted is the Grandeur of our Lord—He never had a mate, nor a child
The believing Jinn testify to absolute monotheism, explicitly rejecting the spiritual myths claiming that God has taken a biological spouse or a son.
Transliteration
Waannahu kana yaqoolu safeehuna AAala Allahi shatatan
Translation
But the fools among us used to say nonsense about God
The Jinn identify Iblis (Satan) as the 'foolish one among us' ('Safihuna') who concocted outrageous lies and blasphemies against God, leading both humans and jinn astray.
Transliteration
Waanna thananna an lan taqoola alinsu waaljinnu AAala Allahi kathiban
Translation
And we thought that humans and jinn would never utter lies about God
Transliteration
Waannahu kana rijalun mina alinsi yaAAoothoona birijalin mina aljinni fazadoohum rahaqan
Translation
Some individual humans used to seek power through some individual jinn, but they only increased them in confusion
Abolishes a pervasive pre-Islamic superstition: when ancient Arab travelers camped in remote desert canyons at night, they would yell: 'We seek protection from the chief demon of this valley against his evil spirits!' The verse explains that invoking jinn for protection only inflated their arrogance and increased human anxiety and terror.
Transliteration
Waannahum thannoo kama thanantum an lan yabAAatha Allahu ahadan
Translation
They thought, as you thought, that God would never resurrect anyone
Transliteration
Waanna lamasna alssamaa fawajadnaha muliat harasan shadeedan washuhuban

Transliteration
Waanna kunna naqAAudu minha maqaAAida lilssamAAi faman yastamiAAi alana yajid lahu shihaban rasadan
Translation
We used to take up positions to listen in; but whoever listens now finds a projectile in wait for him
The Jinn explain their celestial cosmic reconnaissance: prior to the Prophet's ﷺ mission, rebellious jinn would eavesdrop at heavenly thresholds to glean fragments of future events to whisper to fortune-tellers. With the advent of the Quran, the lower heavens were heavily guarded by piercing meteorites ('Shihab'), cutting off all eavesdropping.
Transliteration
Waanna la nadree asharrun oreeda biman fee alardi am arada bihim rabbuhum rashadan
Translation
We do not know whether ill is intended for those on earth, or if their Lord intends goodness for them
Transliteration
Waanna minna alssalihoona waminna doona thalika kunna taraiqa qidadan
Translation
Some of us are righteous, but some of us are less than that; we follow divergent paths
Clarifies that the Jinn realm possesses moral free will identical to humanity: they are divided into diverse ideological sects, including righteous believers, average followers, and rebellious sinners ('Tara'iqa Qidada').
Transliteration
Wanna thananna an lan nuAAjiza Allaha fee alardi walan nuAAjizahu haraban
Translation
We realized that we cannot defeat God on earth, and that we cannot escape Him by fleeing
Transliteration

The places of worship are for God. So do not call, besides God, upon anyone else
Establishes that all mosques and places of prayer belong purely to God: strictly criminalizes invoking deceased saints, angels, or spirits alongside the One True Creator in any place of worship.
Transliteration
Waannahu lamma qama AAabdu Allahi yadAAoohu kadoo yakoonoona AAalayhi libadan
Translation
And when the servant of God got up calling on Him, they almost fell on him in a mass
Describes the awe of the listening jinn: when the Prophet Muhammad ﷺ stood up in dawn prayer, the jinn crowded so densely on top of one another to absorb every syllable that they nearly suffocated him like a dense compacted mass ('Libada').
